Had the same thing happen several months ago. Like you, I use a password vault and quickly determined that I was not using that password - can't remember the last time I used it but it must have been several years ago, so if it was stolen in a hack it was from a long time ago.
The part that made me laugh is when he claimed to have turned on my laptop camera - an incredible feat since I don't have a laptop, nor do I have a webcam attached to my computer. For those of you who DO have a laptop webcam, best practice is to put a piece of tape over the lens when not in use - they CAN be turned on remotely.
The email was very creative but clearly a scam, so I just deleted it and forgot about it until you posted this. |
