FYI, this bill has already been passed and signed into law.
That's an interesting perspective about us being "Appointed Public Officials", but I'm not sure that would prevent us from being employees, depending on the circumstances. I'm thinking about all the companies out there who have notaries on staff who notarize solely or primarily for other employees within that company. That may be true, however, as it applies to doing loan signing work. I really couldn't say.
It sounds, however, like those folks have just read the headlines or heard it mentioned on the radio. This may be a question we face more and more often, but as I've outlined elsewhere, I believe this law should have little impact on us and will not apply in the vast majority of cases.
