I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the co I signed up with (for free) way back in early to mid 2000s. If they're the ones I'm thinking of, they actually gave you a web page with your profile, although it probably never came up unless someone was searching for your name specifically.
That's the rub... Many years later, I did do a search for myself online and found that profile - which said I'd done 500 signings. Problem was that by then, I'd done more like 5000 signings. I tried to contact them to figure out how to delete my profile and was told that I'd have to pay to get a membership again to do any edits to it! I decided to not worry about it. Fortunately, it seems to no longer show up. [That should tell people something about whether or not it's worth it to list with them.]
It's a good idea, in general, to periodically do a search for yourself and/or your business name. Also, if you put yourself in the shoes of those who might be looking for your services, what will they find? If you don't see a certain directory show up at all, why pay to list there? If you can't find it, neither will anyone else in your area.
