This is a very good reason to *never* pass on 'fee savings' (if that's what you meant) when you can group your assignments together. If you can do so to keep your own expenses down, great. But as has been said here many times, we should always factor into our fees the fact that 'stuff happens'. If you can take advantage of those kinds of efficiencies, that should be to your benefit, but if we count on it, we're going to be disappointed too often.
As for what they should expect from us, we each have to figure out what WE can accept within our own particular circumstances, as everyone's are different. Decide what works for you (even if it varies from day to day) and make sure you communicate that to your client. Handling that is part of the art of doing this business, whether your policy is to put signings with late docs at the end of the line, or you have a drop dead time frame where you give it back when docs don't get there in time. How we choose to react is the only part of that process that we can control.
