Re: Anyone in California renewed their commission recently?

I kind of doubt anyone will be able to answer your question because, as Steve alluded to, I'd assume most here make sure to complete everything (or try to) prior to a month before their commission expiration, which as he said, is the soonest new commission materials are ever sent out, but under current conditions, who knows... Wink

Last time I renewed, I listed out every distinct action that had to be completed and I think it was about 11 steps. I recommend you just jump on every next step the first day possible. You'll also need time to do your live scan and have the state conduct the background check you'll have to pass, of course, before your new commission will be processed. FWIW, I started the process by signing up for the January exam last December (before any of us had heard of Covid-19), 5-6 months before my expiration this past June. Next time, I suggest allowing at *least* 3 months for the whole process, unless being a notary is something you just do casually.

Also, do I assume correctly you've already completed your 3-hour training? If not, I recommend you buy a Premier membership from this site and do the free one they offer here. It'll also give you a very nice discount on new stamps, etc. once you finally do get the new commission. Service is fast & quality is excellent. (And since you found the info about the extension of commissions, I assume you also found the part about extending your surety bond?)

Good luck!
