I had shipped a document up there for an Apostille on Jan 21st and just got it back about a week ago. So they had a serious backlog. I can't remember where I heard it, but somewhere I found out that the office had been shut down for a week due to fears about potential protests/riots near state government buildings in Sacramento that week due to the Inauguration.
I don't think I was ever able to verify that, but it seemed like they were making progress, as I was checking the status. On the SOS website Apostille page, they show the Current Processing Date, i.e. date of docs received that they're currently handling. It took about four weeks for mine to get done, but it looks like they're down to three now. If memory serves, it used to be about 2 weeks. |
