Thanks for offering your honest perspective. What upsets us pros even more than the 'sims' or text-blast companies, are the outfits that advertise this business as a great opportunity to make lots of what they present as 'easy' money, and then they only train you on the simple part. As you've found out, the hard part is finding work.
The sad reality is that being in business for oneself isn't easy. And before someone decides to seriously pursue a 'business opportunity' that requires an investment of time and money, they should have something of an idea of what it's going to take and what the potential is for success. But I get that sometimes that awareness and knowledge is only acquired from the school of hard knocks...
Finding clients requires much more than just signing up with some online directories. People who don't have any idea how to go about that need to find some resources on their own to learn how. SCORE may be one good possibility. Another could be to scour this forum using the search feature to look for some of the many tidbits that have been shared here and there over the years. Unfortunately, though, the keys to accomplishing that are what the most successful would consider part of their proprietary business plan and not something that makes sense to publicly share. Nor do they want to train their competition, like any other business.
If you haven't already discovered it, I recommend you start with Msg #630000, and follow all the links and threads listed there and read all the messages in the threads you find. That will take you a while and some of it is dated, but it's still worth it, IMO. Then keep coming back to check it, as it's new and there will hopefully be much more (probably newer) stuff added to it over time. In fact, since your post describes the concerns of so many others who've been posting here, it might be worth adding on there, too. (We'll see...) Please let us know if you find it helpful.
