We have something a little bit like that in some states for US notaries. Many (all?) states require notaries to take an oath of office, which of course must be notarized. Many states require notaries to file their application to be a notary electronically. Many states do not allow their notaries to perform RON. Throughout the US, in-person electronic notarization is hard to find.
So, since many notaries won't want to go to an out-of-state RON notary, and no in-person electronic notarization is available, how are notaries going to get an electronic version of their oaths to submit with their electronic applications? Vermont has decided to just let the applying notaries scan the oaths and upload them. This, of course, is less secure than the original signatures that would be present if the paper originals were sent in. |
