Re: There must be some borrowers that do trust RON

""Seasoned" notaries not only knew this slow down was coming, but planned and prepared for it, simply because it hasn't been the first time we have experienced this."

I agree with this part of your post, but I disagree with the conclusion. Just because the NSA business has always come back in the past [in the rather short history that it's existed at all] doesn't mean it will always do the same. I've been through downturns in this field before - most notably during the "Great Recession" - but very significant changes in technology have raised the distinct possibility that this next one will be very different.

In my experience, the younger the signer, the more likely they are to be comfortable with RON and electronic signing. It's becoming more and more common for me to hear comments from people wondering why they can't just "docusign" the whole thing. [That 'brand' seems to be taking over, just like people tend to call facial tissues 'Kleenex'...]

RON is changing the equation. There is now lots of monetary incentive for companies to either eliminate the mobile notary and paper documents from the loan signing process and/or to take over that step altogether - and not only for real estate transactions. The pace seems to be increasing for that transition, not slowing down.

I hope you're right about our industry bouncing back at some point. But I believe it's naive to believe it will again just because it has before.

One more thing... You seem to be new here so you may not be aware that there's a separate forum for political discussion (called 'Just Politics', or often just 'JP'). It was created because political discussions got out of hand here, so there's now a 'no politics' rule on the 'Discuss Work' page. Please respect that by taking any politically tinged comments over there. Thanks.
