I am aware of at least one exception to the rule of thumb that notaries should not notarize their own signatures.
According to Jim Knapp, the presenter for the Vermont Bar Association's notary public continuing education webinar held on Halloween 2022, once rules are passed to allow Vermont notaries to do electronic notarizations, it would be acceptable for a VT notary to notarize a document electronically, and then certify a copy of the same document in paper form.
You might ask why not just notarize a paper version and an electronic version to begin with? Perhaps the signer didn't foresee a need for a paper version and requested the certified copy months after the electronic original.
