Granted, Steve. Those signings I had yesterday were all accepted via a phone call. I much prefer phone calls. It gives me a chance to get all details at once so I can give an accurate quote.
When it comes to blast offers:
1. If offer is from a company I want to work with, I will counter offer if their offer is low. Without knowing all details (i.e. large package, scan backs, Spanish required, etc.), my counter will be on the high side to cover all possibilities. Suprisingly enough, I've had some positive response with this.
2. If it's a company I'm not familiar with, I will counter offer their low offer and research them while I wait for a response. If I find it's a "poor" company and they happen to accept my counter offer, I will turn it back and let them know why I cannot take the assignment.
3. Needless to say, I don't bother countering on offers from poorly-rated companies.
We each have our business plan and a modus operandi. This is what works for me.
