Thanks for the heads-up for those of us in surrounding areas who may face some of these issues at some point. I'd like to re-emphasize, though, your important qualification about "For RULONA states...". California is not a RULONA state, so the description of what is OK in the last paragraph won't automatically apply here. What I expect will happen, as I believe has been the case with previous disasters, is some kind of statement with guidelines from our SOS office.
It's certainly going to be the case that many people will have lost critical documents, which could create challenging barriers to them when trying to make claims and move forward. I just hope that guidelines come quickly and clearly, if and when they do! We will no doubt need to remain vigilant, however, because state notary laws have not changed - and won't likely change quickly - and the wannabe fraudsters are likely to come out of the woodwork like crazy... |
