Facts, as posted in the NYT article - the article quoted Nunberg, who was a Trump adviser early on and helped shape his message. Trump famously does not like working from a script, so how else do you keep him on message?
In recent days, we've seen administration officials such as Mulvaney backing away from the idea of the concrete wall that Trump talked about. Even Trump is now saying that it has to be "some kind of barrier" - not necessarily a physical wall. We already have barriers at the border. Do they need to be improved? Possibly, but NOTHING has been done to expand them under Trump's administration despite the fact that Congress already gave him $1.6 billion for border security. He tells us that the wall is already being built - that's a lie. The existing barriers are being maintained. Not a single mile of the barrier has been added so far under his watch. DHS tells us that 4000 terrorists have been caught at the border - that's a lie; they were stopped at airports because their names were similar to those on a federal terrorist watch list. ZERO terrorists were captured at our southern border - ZERO. This administration is lying to us about this because they want to scare us.
So the bottom line is that Trump has painted himself into a corner, and 800,000 federal workers are being held hostage as he tries to figure out a way to keep what his base thought was a campaign promise but what was actually just a campaign slogan. |
