I will NOT be watching the tribute to Donald Trump tomorrow night. This is just stupid. The only President who ever tried to get involved in the celebration of the 4th was Nixon, and that was so ugly that he never tried it again.
Without knowing what Trump's speech will be about, I can guess that this is going to be a campaign event for him. If I'm wrong, I will admit it. If I'm right, he will have taken our most important National Holiday and turned it into a partisan event. Independence Day has NEVER been about the military. We honor them on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I must have missed the memo - at what point did every single national holiday become about the military?
The US has NEVER had a military parade in our Capitol -tanks, APCs, missiles, have never been on display in DC. What's the point here? It's just another reality show that is costing us millions of dollars for no reason - $2.5 million taken from the National Parks alone.
