I think I read that herd immunity requires two things that we don't have - or don't yet know if we will have. The first is around 80% of population having had the virus. We're a long, long, long way from that. The second requires that having the virus provides immunity from contracting it again for long term. So far, I don't believe anyone knows for sure if having COVID-19 antibodies provides any protection at all, and if it doesn't, the first one is irrelevant.
Fortunately for the people of Tulsa, the crowd was nowhere near what was expected. Unfortunately, though, there was little social distancing and very few masks. That may be a problem for people far beyond OK, as I heard there were people there from various parts of the country... I just hope none of them caught it and brought it back with them! I also hope screening attempts prior to entry made a difference. |
