Cain, the former presidential primary candidate and CEO of Godfather Pizza, was presumed to have contracted it at Trump's Tulsa rally in July (based largely on the fact that he came down with it 10 days later). The rally was attended by about 6000 people, few if any wearing masks and many bunched up together, ignoring social distancing guidelines. Cain himself posted several pictures of him seated in close contact with dozens of people, none of them wearing a mask.
While every COVID death is a tragedy, some could have been prevented. Cain chose to ignore the science that said, "here's what you have to do to protect yourself". All choices have consequences, many unintended. To quote the Knight Templar in "Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail": "Choose wisely." Unfortunately, Herman didn't.
Am I sorry he died? Absolutely, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. No one deserves to die like that. Am I surprised he caught the disease? No, he did everything wrong and invited it in. If his story makes a bunch of people wake up to what they're doing wrong, something good might come out of this. |
