No, you're way off base on this one. Yes, they were both in possession of documents they weren;t supposed to have. That's were the comparison ends.
The decision to prosecute depends on knowledge and intent, not just possession.
Biden's people are cooperating 100% with NARA and DOJ, self-reporting the documents they found - about 20 at last count. Keep in mind these are from when Biden was VP, almost 10 years ago, so the sensitivity now is probably not what it was then. He says he didn't even realize he had them, and NARA never knew they were missing.
Trump, on the other hand, actively interfered with NARA's attempts to retrieve over 300 documents, many of which were classified His attorneys lied about the documents being returned; Trump ignored a subpoena to produce the documents, which led to a judge signing a search warrant. During that search, many more classified documents were found. Trump then went to court, claiming the stolen documents were his property and got a friendly judge 70 miles away (who he appointed) to appoint a Special Master to review the documents, further delaying return of the documents. That sort of worked until an appellate court slapped the judge down and said she had no jurisdiction to do what she did.
How can you POSSIBLY compare the two situations and think they're the same thing?? Of course Biden's cooperation matters, especially when compared to Trump's obstruction. It speaks to intent - who intended to cooperate vs who intended to obstruct? |
