He's not leaving on his own - he will have to pushed out behind the scenes, and McCarthy won't lift a finger to make that happen because he will likely be replaced by a Democrat.
However, he is being investigated for violating several election financing laws, and those are felonies that carry a penalty of up to 5 years. Even with a felony conviction and behind bars, he can't be forced out of the House but he becomes completely useless. McCarthy just did away with the remote voting that Pelosi started during the height of the pandemic - so now, if you can't be in the House to vote for some reason, you can't vote on any bills. McCarthy would effectively lose his vote anyway. |
