I have been reading disturbing reports from usually credible sources that DeSantis's policy of deciding how children in his state should be educated will soon rewrite the story of Rosa Parks by eliminating any reference to segregation and why she was told to move to the back of the bus, with at least one version saying simply that "she was asked to take another seat on the bus".
To be absolutely clear - as much as I despise him, I'm not accusing DeSantis and his authoritarian policies of anything at this point. I haven't been able to confirm that this is true, so I would like to know if the Floridians here have heard anything about it and can confirm or deny it, and cite sources.
IF it's true (and again, I don't know that it's true, so don't jump on me, accusing me of being a hater), I have questions:
1) Why would you allow this? 2) Why even bother teaching about Rosa Parks in the first place if you're going to eliminate what actually happened? Why not just pretend she didn't exist? 3) Are you OK with your children or grandchildren being taught "clean" revisions of actual American history? This stuff actually happened - why hide it from them? - |
