And as Sylvia said, the UK has a National Health Plan and it's a disaster. Talk to anyone from Canada and they'll echo the same sentiment.
As for illegals, I don't get it. What part of the word "ILLEGAL" do people NOT understand? When I do something illegal, I go to jail, right? Hmmm.... ??
When they make me Queen, things will change. I don't care how many babies an illegal alien has while she's in this country... not on my dime.
What has caused this ire in me? Oh, perhaps the following:
1. There are 3 grocery stores (large chains, not mom/pops) that I cannot shop at any longer. Why? Not ONE person speaks English and they are completely offended if you do not know Spanish. Seriously.
2. Schools/Education. I live in one of the wealthiest counties in the country with regard to tax revenue. The bulk of our property tax revenue comes from the multi-million dollar condos that are second homes to the wealthy. They don't have kids in school, they don't use the resources they pay for.
The illegal population has tripled in the past 6 years, to the point that the tax revenue must be used to build new schools to accommodate the influx. What does this mean? That tax dollars are funneled into ESOL programs, integration programs, and remedial programs and are removed from Art, Music, Sports and Honors/AP programs. It is so dire a situation that I made the decision to pull my daughter from Public School and enroll her in parochial school to the tune of $13,000 per year just so she could have a decent education with a fair shot at college scholarships, and not miss out on Art, Music, etc. (Oh, yes... and at the WORST possible economic time for me, an NSA and RE Broker)
3. I called the IRS to request a copy of a past years tax return. During this discussion, the rep was verifying my identity through a series of questions, one of which was "From what sources did you have income in 2004?". I told her, and she said "What about your income in California? Or New Jersey? I explained that I had never lived or worked in CA or NJ. She told me that most likely, my Social Security number had been compromised and while not used to establish credit (I check my Credit Report frequently), it had probably been used to work. Wonderful. Anyone care to help me straighten out THAT mess???
I could go on, ad nauseum. But I think you get the picture. |
