Okay, so now I'm beginning to understand why everybody who lives east of the western Nevada border rolls their eyes when the word "California" is uttered. Juicing is acceptable -- not fine, not preferred, just acceptable -- if that is the only way you can or will consume fruits and vegetables. However, juicing largely destroys the usable fiber in both. Fiber not only helps your body process the food you consume, it slows the absorption of sugars in fruits and vegetables, thus averting the glucose spikes so harmful to diabetics. As to weight loss, just a portion of the raw fruits and vegetables in a cup of juice will be more filling than the entire cup of juice. Juicing has its place, and it is well to include in a balanced diet, but it is not a nutritional panacea. It will cure neither cancer nor constipation, though a full regimen of juicing with kale may cure any desire you have to live to be 90. Sorry, Cheryl; just thought the other side of the aisle should be heard from. |
