"This all gives me great pause, however, when I think about what I must sound like in Spanish. Anyone know of a good site for Spanish grammar? I have a grammar text book that's more than 40 years old (with Castilian Spanish) and I shudder to think about what's changed, let alone what I learned incorrectly or don't remember!"
You can try http://duolingo.com - it's really a language learning site, but it's free and I believe they feature Latin American Spanish, which is more relevant for us on this side of the pond. Castillian is the dialect I learned in high school (my teacher called it "high or classical Spanish"). When I moved to TX I thought it would be a good idea to brush up on my Spanish because we are pretty much bilingual here. I tried Babbel and although it's a good program, I quickly realized from things like pronunciation that they only teach Castillian (makes sense - they're based in Europe). A friend told me about Duolingo, and it doesn't seem to be based on the Castillian dialect. |
