I agree with you that the cable companies are hurting - they need to go to an "a la carte" system of selling programming because the streaming companies are going to kill them otherwise. Their biggest problem is that they sign deals with companies like ESPN that force them to charge every subscriber for ESPN programming. In fact, Sling used to offer HBO as an optional channel, but HBO wanted to make it part of the basic package - which would have driven up the cost for everyone. Sling said no, so people like me who want to watch HBO have to do it separately - which is the way it should be. Why should you pay for something you're not interested in? Pay for what you want, not for what they want to sell you. |
