If you can only see the head of the alligator sticking up out of the water, you can estimate its full length this way:
Take a rough guess of the distance from its eyes to its nose in inches. For each inch add one foot of length.
So say your 'gator's face seems to be 10 inches long. That means in total, he'll be about 10 feet long.
