WordPerfect - now there's a blast from the past. I think I have my original manual from Satellite Software packed away somewhere. I gave up on Word and the rest of the MS Office apps years ago - now I use LibreOffice, which does just about everything the Office Suite did (the only thing missing is an Outlook clone), is fully compatible with Office file formats, and best of all it's free.
I'm one of those folks who doesn't always embrace change with open arms, especially when it comes to computers, so I'm not really looking forward to Win 11. Microsoft has a long history of shipping product that's "just good enough", and then fixing the problems later on with updates which in turn cause other problems.
I've also been experiencing problems with Win 10 lately that can be traced back to an update (as in, it never did this before the update, and nothing else has changed). One thing I've found is that it doesn't handle memory properly - it allows programs to end but hold on to some of the memory they were using, which can slow down the computer and cause other programs to behave oddly. I find myself having to restart the system every couple of days just to clear up problems, something I never had to do until recently (I don't turn my desktop off unless I'm gonna be away for a day or two).
Windows 10 is still a work in progress, but now we have to move to Windows 11? |
