I really like the idea of suspending judgment, as much as it is possible. I try to do that as a matter of practice to avoid knee-jerk (sometimes unconscious) reactions to things, and to be more open to things that I hadn’t viewed in certain ways before. That’s the beauty of other people’s perspectives and why they can be complementary (rather than, at times, automatically contrary – putting ourselves into “camps”).
It feels like you’re suspending judgment, Janet. Taking it in, and thinking about the question and as a consequence your own ideas in the process. That is so fantastic! :-) I posed the question with my own suspended judgment in mind. I had my preformed ideas, but wanted to be open to the thoughts of others. I’m so glad I did, because it’s so fun and interesting.
I really like this forum because we’re not a Facebook echo-chamber of like minds. We’re joined by our work, but we hail from all over the country, different ages, backgrounds, politics, religions, geographic and ethnic influences – there are a lot of differences from which to learn, and likenesses in our humanity which we share. I feel a Rod Serling moment coming-on here! :-)
Enjoy your Thursday, Janet ! :-) All the best to you! |
