I've been asked to show ID. I had no problem. It was an 90 year old lady, in the hospital. If that's what she needs to feel comfortable with a stranger walking into her room, why not?
I carry a copy of the Notary Public Certificate in my bag. So I showed her my ID and my Certificate from the SOS.
When I asked her to sign the notary ledger and place her thumbprint she looked at me like she was not sure. I told her that keeping a log with her fingerprint is actually protecting her. It was to prevent identity theft and fraud. When I said that she light up and did her thumb print.
He daughter walked out with me and told me that her mother was very paranoid about identity theft. So she thanked me for making her mother feel at ease.
I am very sensitive to the fact that I'm going into someone's home (or hospital room, etc) and they do not know me from Adam. We have our company sign on our vehicles when we do a notary or loan signing appointment.
