... and that's what I call myself (tho I leave out the "simple country" part). I don't even say "notary public" anymore, because people think I'm saying Nota-Republic. I just say "notary." If people actually want to know why I, of all people in the whole loan process, am the one to show up at the very end with all their papers, I say I'm here for one reason: to identify you as the signer of these docs and notarize your signature on the Deed (or whatever). (Or is that two reasons?). But mostly people don't ask.... they just want to sign and get their $$. I'm in and out as quickly and efficiently and politely as possible. No time for fancy labels.
If I actually run into a poor borrower whose LO has shined him on and never bothered to explain the HUD and then they expect me to, I say "I am strictly the notary" (not "just the notary") and I'm not a state-licensed LO, am not authorized to speak for your TC or lender, blah blah, but give your guy a call etc etc. |
