IMO if you sign off on this paraph (outside of LA), you're making yourself responsible for the fact that the Note is for property described in the Mortgage. And in my further opinion..that's way above your pay grade and would not be covered under your E&O if there's any flashback...since it's not an authorized notarial act it wouldn't be covered.
I ran into this just a few times..the first time I signed it (idiot that I was) and THEN checked with the SOS - that's when I was told it's a no-no here. I never signed one again.
