My understanding is there was disenchantment with the way OpenOffice was being developed, so the better developers jumped ship and created an offshoot, LibreOffice, https://www.libreoffice.org/
Reportedly there is much more development effort devoted to LibreOffice compared to OpenOffice. I personally use LibreOffice when I need it, although I mostly use Microsoft Office or Google Docs/Sheets, etc., because I can't depend on the people I work with having access to LibreOffice. |
