I recently installed a 4350 for myself and I love it! All I needed to do was turn on pc and printer, then plug it in. Printer drivers were downloaded automatically. (I'm still on Windows 7, too.)
Claudine, you didn't say what the problem is, but you might try unplugging the printer cable from your computer, then restarting it. Make sure the printer is on and then plug the printer cable back into your pc. That might be all it needs. I learned this because I bought a new 15' printer cable for my 'new' printer, but when I installed it, it was running slower than my old printer, stopping and starting. On a hunch, I switched the 10' printer cable from my older (now back-up) printer, and voila! It's working perfectly. When I did that, though, my system automatically reloaded a new printer driver again. The key is to do everything in the right sequence.
You might want to first go to the HP site to see if they still offer printer drivers for that model, but I'd be surprised if they don't. I believe my back-up (an HP 2430) is an older model and, last I checked, those printer drivers were still available. With a little luck, you might save yourself the cost of another printer...
