Re: look what I found - Save Notary Charges on Closing Costs

This represents a step backward in the process. What the ad is trying to do is go back to mailaways which were common in the 1990's for refinance closing. All of the improvements to closings done by signing agents are being overlooked. First, the customer will not be signing at home unless he independently finds a notary who does mobile work. Not impossible, but a consumer is not always aware of who is out there. The quality of the signing is gone. The signers must know where to sign on each document and the notary they hire must know the documents as well. (recording requirements, ink color, document borders etc.) If the documents are mishandled, incomplete etc. the title company will need to set up a corrective signing or a re-sign. The responsibility is all on the signers and since they are the lender's customer the blame will naturally have to be assumed by the title company. Title companies did away with this mess and developed the notary signing agent business for a reason. Quality signings done in the shortest available time has a value and they are willing to pay it.
