Had sellers' signing yesterday with older couple who lost just about everything in the Santa Rosa fires last year.
They were awakened in the middle of the night by firefighter banging on their front door. Firefighter instructed them to grab her purse and cat that luckily was in room with them and go. The front of their house was already on fire. Mrs. doesn't like driving at night but she did and "just floored it." Mr. took his car and followed her lead. All they had was their sleep attire - no robes, no coats. Their house was on top of the hill. He showed me pictures. Beautiful house reduced to nothing but a bare branch of a tree out front. Looked like a bomb exploded. Eerie and very sad.
In a week's time, they've sold a couple of rental homes and were now selling the property where their primary residence sat. They were happy to say the buyers are a nice family with a growing family who will be rebuilding.
They've purchased and live in a newer $1.3M home atop a hill. They had to replace all their furniture, all their clothes, photos. Family members have managed to help them replace photos. They're now closer to their kids and grandchildren. They were eager to share their story. Throughout our conversation and signing, every once in a while they'd hold hands. A lovely, loving couple who've been married 63 years. I was honored to assist them in their new start.
