Definitely a scam/phishing email, but a very good one!
Posted by  JanetK_CA of CA on 5/17/18 7:43pm Msg #593396
I got the exact same thing today, same borrower name and everything. Guaranteed that there isn't a signing that would fall within both our service areas (plus wherever docs1954CA is)! Wink Notice that there's no address - or even city - mentioned.

The same party posted a message last week that sounded fishy, but at least a possibility. I think someone posted it here then, but here it is again, for those who missed it:

"Hello,

I was actually searching for a notary agent Urgently for my up coming closing here in CA next week...... Please get back to me if you will be available so that i can have the closing document send to you in a secure email."

On the remote chance it was legit from someone who is clueless about California, I sent this reply:

"I might be available, but would need more details. Can you tell me what day you will want to sign, where, and what city the property is located in? Also, what kind of a closing is it??"

Very few of my questions were addressed. I intentionally asked about location of the property. If legit, this would have to be from someone outside of the state and would likely be a property elsewhere, too, so if they stated otherwise, that would be a clear giveaway. 'Course, they just ignored the issue and sent out a uniform blast email to many. And as someone else noted, there wasn't even a mention of a fee, let alone an acceptance of the assignment. [On my cell phone, none of the content showed up without clicking on "load more" which I decided against. Glad I did!]

One more warning of how sophisticated some of these scammers are getting. Obviously, they just want us to click on the attachment or link. We can't be too careful!!
