one of my longer ones was...."just show up"...

Docs had been Fed Exed to the buyers ahead of time. But, when I arrived, there were 9 signers! 796 pages stacked in the center of the dining room table. I just wanted to cry. One of the signers apologized that she had recently had a stroke and it was going to take her a while to sign. She was a sweetheart. Luckily, no readers. In fact, one of the signers said, "heh, no worries. I'm not reading all this. If something isn't as it should be, we'll just sue everyone. We're all attorneys." LOVELY. We got it all done in 2.5 hours. Then, escrow wanted everything scanned back to them. My eyes were crossed by the end.

I did reach out and get a significant increase in my fee for my time and effort. It never hurts to let the client know you have gone above and beyond. I think you handled the situation perfectly.
