I was just reading up on how RON platforms handle the notary's digital certificate.
From Notarize:
https://support.notarize.com/en/articles/1317303-how-to-verify-notarize-digital-certificates
Notarize appears to make the notary get a certificate from IdenTrust's Access Certificates for Electronic Services (ACES) program.
From DocVerify
http://help.docverify.com/DigitalCertificates.html
(and some other DocVerify pages I've read.)
DocVerify ordinarily uses it's own digital certificate, not the notary's to sign documents (but the notary's name and seal will appear in the notarial certificate). But if the state requires the notary to have and use his/her own digital certificate, DocVerify will allow the notary to upload it into the DocVerify system.
Since we see that one company Notarize, won't let the notary use any old digital certificate, it has to be IdentTrust, we could easily imagine there's another RON platform that will require the notary to use a digital certificate from some other company. So if one notary wanted to sign up with both companies, the notary would need two digital certificates. |
