"Either of your translations both say the people have the right to keep and bear arms, I’m not sure what your confused about... "
No, they don't - the original makes it clear that the reason is to arm a militia, the botched version isn't clear about what the reasoning is. Once a militia became unnecessary (standing Army plus a National Guard), the reason for the right no longer applies.
"There’s no telling what the original meaning was, you weren’t there, so your just guessing I assume"
You weren't there either - what makes your interpretation more valid than mine? SCOTUS and 5 federal judges have the same interpretation of the mangled version - there's nothing in the Second Amendment that protects AR-15s and similar weapons, and laws banning them are not unconstitutional. They weren't there either when it was written - are they just guessing?
"and yes, there are legitimate uses for semi-autos, you’ve obviously never shot a round of sporting clays with a pump shotgun."
Using a shotgun is what makes it a sport. Isn't it supposed to be about skill? Seriously, I've watched clay-shooting during the Olympics and have been really impressed by what those folks can do with a shotgun even when the clays are launched from two directions at the same time. Allowing them to use a semi-auto to do it - not so impressive.
I have an acquaintance who used an AR-15 to launch golf balls for the fun of it. Load the magazine with blanks, drop a golf ball in the launcher, aim at the sky, and pull the trigger. If your eyes were good, you could follow the trajectory for a second or two before the ball disappeared from view. And all the while he's doing this, I'm wondering if he had any idea where - or on who - the ball was landing. Granted, we were on his property in The Middle of Nowhere, Oklahoma, but he had no way of knowing whether someone was wandering around down range. At one point, in what can only be called a "here, hold my beer" moment, he aimed the gun at an empty 50-gallon drum a hundred yards or so away. The ball went through the drum like the drum wasn't even there and embedded itself in the wall of a storage shed a short distance behind the drum.
Call me crazy, but that didn't seem iike the responsible use of a firearm to me; your mileage may vary. |
