Trump has reached the point where he can now just about literally do what he claimed during the campaign - stand in the middle of 5th Ave. and shoot people, and his base wouldn't care. And as long as his base stays above to 30% mark, the GOP majority probably doesn't have the stones to impeach him. If his base starts to abandon him, that could change.

It took almost two years to force Nixon out, and that was in the face of overwhelming evidence - and his base stood by him right to the end.

"Yes, he is self-absorbed and not living in reality at times."

At times? How about ever? Trump's greatest weakness is the same thing he was selling as his greatest strength - the fact that he was not a Washington insider, that he was a great businessman who could alone fix the problems of the country. Those of us who have known what and who Trump is ever since he left skid marks bursting on the NY scene in the late 70's know this was a con job. He's not a great businessman - great businessmen don't bankrupt 6 companies and stiff the people they owe money to. He is probably not worth anywhere near where he claims to be worth because a lot of his holdings are offset by debt - but we don't know for sure because he reneged on a promise to release his tax returns, which would provide this information. His self-proclaimed deal-making skills have so far proven to be non-existent. He has never had to answer to anyone and is used to being in total charge where what he says goes - and is now in uncharted territory where he is just one part of three co-equal branches of government.

And now he keeps stepping on landmines that are clearly labeled as such, and in the process, he is blowing up the GOP legislative agenda - they can't get ANYTHING done, despite the fact that they control both Houses of Congress. The Dems would love to obstruct, but they don't have to - Trump is doing all the heavy lifting.

I think he will eventually stumble his way into either impeachment or removal from office via the 25th Amendment if he doesn't see the writing on the wall and pull a Nixon first. You're right, his replacement will not be much better, but Pence at least understands how the levers work and MAY be able to get things done.
