"Georgia sucks. Whatsa matter with GA voters?"
Not so much Georgia voters as the idiots they elected, which seems to be a common theme in many states.
As to why Delta offered discounts to NRA members, I don't think that was exclusive to the NRA (although there doesn't apper to be any truth at all to the statements of GA legislator that discounts were also given to Planned Parenthood members).
Delta, as well as other airlines, offer discounts to a number of organizations, usually for group travel. The NRA has scheduled a convention here in Dallas later this year, and contracted with Delta to offer discounted fees to members primarily in anticipation of that. CNN reported yesterday that only 13 people had taken advantage of the NRA discount before it was yanked - that's four less than were killed in Parkland.
Delta is one of - if not THE - largest employers in Georgia, so the idea of the GA legislature attempting to punish them for defying the NRA makes no sense at all. This is basic shoot-yourself-in-the-foot politics - attempting to make a statement to impress your base that is eventually going to come back and bite you in the butt. After the vote, Delta issued a statement that while they support the 2nd Amendment, their values are not for sale. Other states are already starting to circle like buzzards on a meat wagon offering incentives for Delta to move their operations.
And that NRA convention in Dallas? The mayor has already asked them to find somewhere else to hold it. |
