FYI, the city of Anaheim is just getting the smoke, thank goodness. The fire was in Anaheim Hills, a different community to the north east. Areas that have been evacuated are to the east of Anaheim, as well. The smoke seems to be blowing west [I heard that some of the rides at Disneyland were closed because the smoke was setting off smoke detectors...] but I read that the fire is moving east. That's probably because that's where there's undeveloped land (with steep hillsides, etc.) that are covered with extremely dry brush, made thicker because of the rains last year. I've been fortunate so far, in that most of the smoke is staying to the north of me, but I can certainly see the haze.
That's the good news.
On the other hand, as I'm sure Cheryl knows, the northern Cal fires are still horrendous, causing devastating property damage and at least 15 dead, so far. More than 100 people are unaccounted for, so that toll may rise. Heard casualties included a couple who had recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Please keep a good thought for those folks...
