I've been the second notary assigned to a signing and have been told that they already spoke to someone else. I'd let them know that I'll verify with my client that no one else will be coming, but it's likely something came up that made them unavailable (like they took ill, had an accident, etc.) so I will be the one who will be helping them.
If, as it appears to be the case here, they've already experienced a no-show when I call, that's when we let them vent, add a few "oh my"s, or "I hope the other notary is OK." "I'm so sorry!" "I can't imagine what could have happened!" Then we do our best reassurance thing and take it from there. We all know there are flakes in this business, but that isn't the time to bad mouth a so-called peer. (And for all we know, they COULD be at the bottom of a ravine somewhere, or in the hospital, etc...) Like the others said, we just give them our best service, and if it's a client worth pursuing, we hope we become their new go-to person in our area. |
