Exactly!
My story is a little different than LD and Alz. I started in Jan. 2006 while still working the "real" job. I'd had personal experience of purchasing, selling and refinancing. I studied those docs; became familiar with those docs and the terminology. I registered on the top 3 'sites and set up a profile there. Developed my own website. Marketed every chance I had ... and still do. I worked my regular F-T job and did signings in the evenings and weekends. I did this 'til I retired from that other job end of March 2011. 5 years. Throughout all this, I've made it a practice to visit and read NotRot as often as possible (usually daily). There's much to learn from other people's experience. During that time, I was gaining experience, gaining knowledge, gaining clients. All that while I lived in the East Bay Area.
Upon retirement, decided to move to Rocklin, 25 miles north east of Sacramento. Cost of living was more affordable. Moved June 2011 and now had the chore of notifying all partners of new service area and concentrated on stringent marketing. The first fellow NSA to welcome me to the area was Alz. I'll never forget that and forever be grateful. Thank you, Alz!
Focus and hard work has paid off. As others have stated, there's no easy route.
