I started easing back into doing signings around the end of May, but I've been doing my appointments outside. I always wear a mask and ask others to do the same, even though we're outdoors. Nearly all are either willing to cooperate or express appreciation for the precautions. It's meant some discomfort a few times but, as I see it, some temporary inconvenience is worth it vs. the potential consequences of getting covid-19, or possibly putting someone else at risk.
In the part of my county that I cover, the numbers are pretty low, but not zero. Also, the stats we have list where the person lived, not where it was contracted. I don't know anyone personally who has had Covid-19, but I've heard from many who do, including some who have passed. I'm not fearful, but I'm still careful. I know all too well that low chance is not the same as zero chance.
So for me, things are almost business as usual, but with some new, sensible precautions as part of the routine. That includes buying cheap pens and giving them away when people don't have their own; having extra masks on hand and always wearing one (properly) when in the presence of others for any period of time (even outside); keeping wipes and paper towels in the car, along with some small tables; using hand sanitizer before and after every signing, etc. I'm still staying away from indoor restaurants, restrooms (whenever possible), etc. Pretty much the only indoor spaces I ever go into are FedEx, UPS and grocery stores (and in and out as quickly as possible).
With weather cooling off a bit in AZ, you might be able to find a set of precautionary steps, including outdoor signings, that you can feel comfortable with. Good luck!
