$25 for every additional 20 miles (or 40 miles round-trip) seems kinda steep to me if all you're talking about is the increased cost of gas. The wear and tear on the vehicle doesn't change, nor does the travel time. That stuff is already factored into your pricing, right?
How many MPG does your car get? If I recall correctly, you have a newer car; it should get at least 20mpg or more even in normal traffic, no? Assuming you're doing just the one job and returning to your home base, you're talking at most maybe 2 gallons of gas to go that extra 40 miles round-trip, so you're charging them $25 for using 2 gallons of gas?
I think that if you're doing this ONLY because of the rising cost of gas in your area, $10-$15 would be more reasonable. Either that or expand the radius.
In the end, your rates are your rates - but don't be surprised if you get some serious pushback from your clients unless you can justify this new pricing structure with something other than the rising cost of gas. |
