Re: Notary Public in Multiple States

The short answer is no - Texas does not allow dual commissions, and as a commissioned Texas notary, you can only perform a notarization when your feet are on Texas soil. Your employer should know this - there is no legal way for you to travel to another state and act as a notary with a Texas commission.

There are two legal options - the first is that THEY travel to YOU, which is probably not what your employer is looking for.

The other option, as Lee mentioned above, is RON. Texas is one of the states that allows Remote Online Notarizations. It requires a separate commission which any commissioned Texas notary can apply for. There's another $50 application fee and you also need to have the technology in place so it's a bit of an investment, but if your employer wants and needs you to be able to do this, they should be willing to help you out with that. You will still be doing the notarizations with YOUR feet on Texas soil, but the other parties can be in other states and they're "appearing before you" via the Internet. It's kinda like Zoom, but much more complicated.

The only remaining question then is whether the other states are willing to accept a remote notarization. Not all of them will. You've got some research to do, but I hope this pointed you in the right direction.
