IDK, but I think they are carrier-specific because they have to boost the range to their towers. It used to be you call your provider and they can enhance your range on their end with an update if you tell them you are getting dropped calls or out of range a lot.
My phone is unlocked, but if I wanted to booster my signal, I think I would have to go with one from my provider as they carry my calls and info. I could be wrong though, but that is what makes sense to me.
