Cool gifts! A coffee table! That's great!
There were many gifts by such nice people. Here are some of the most memorable.
Unbelievably good wine, personally made by a man born and raised in Bordeaux, France. He made some of the best wine I’ve ever tasted. With each appointment, of which there were many as his wife had extensive Real Estate holdings, he gifted me a bottle of wine.
A bologna sandwich on Wonder bread. I’m a foodie and this sandwich would not ordinarily be my cup of tea. But, it was made by a 92 y/o man with so much love, you could taste it. I later nicknamed him “Gosh-Darn-it” Man. He was an old school logger, and every other word was GD this GD that. He was hard core, with a heart of gold.
A whole, fresh salmon right off the boat, with an outrageous marinade recipe that I still use all the time.
The most poignant was a book from a psychologist. We had a wonderful conversation about poetry and philosophy and upon leaving, she handed me a book called “The Gift” by Hafiz. A month later, I had a serious mt. bike accident and spent a week in intensive care fighting for my life. When the nuns came and started praying over me (Catholic hospital), I held-up the book and said, “I’ve got this.” That book helped pull me through. A gift from a kind person at a Notary signing.
Here’s the book.
