That's the safest thing to do if you're concerned about them nagging you about whether you dropped or not. I've found though, that if you hand it to the clerk at the desk, they'll just walk it over to the machine and do exactly what you could have done yourself. That's not "always" true. Sometimes, they'll scan it the "old fashioned" way and give you a "real" receipt but not always. The other thing is that if there is a line at the desk, it's not worth it to me to waste my time waiting if I can just drop it in the bin myself and get a receipt that proves when I did it. As long as (if push comes to shove) I can prove when I dropped the package, that's all that matters to me. |
