I believe in math that makes sense. Your math doesn't - you're not comparing anything that means anything.
First off, in your first example, you've got the numerator and denominator reversed.
Second, to make this meaningful you can't just lump the rest of the world into one bucket and compare us to that - you would have to look at each country individually and compare them against each other. Other than that, we have no idea yet what our infection rate is because we're not doing enough testing yet. So to say that we're better contained than the rest of the world is just whistling past the graveyard.
The only MEANINGFUL comparison you can make with the data as you presented it is this:
Worldwide death rate:
(3100/80859) x 100 = 3.8%
US death rate:
(19/423) x 100 = 4.5%
As more people are tested in the US, that percentage will undoubtedly go down. But your numbers are useless as far as a comparison is concerned. Randomly dividing numbers just because you can doesn't prove anything. |
