Thinking like that is one of the reasons we only have two parties. In fact, I read somewhere that there are now more independents than there are registered party members. People are leaving both parties and registering as independents, and that number has increased since the last election. It's only a matter of time before a candidate with no ties to either established party will come along and catch the attention of voters. If we can eliminate "dark money" and SCOTUS overturns Citizens United, it would start to level the playing field.
